​- AIDS/HIV

​Hyacinth AIDS Foundation (New Brunswick)
Incorporated 1985 in response to NJ’s AIDS epidemic, initial programs included hotline, buddy program, and support groups to help people with AIDS as they prepared to die, later worked to educate public about HIV and AIDS, encourage confidential testing, develop and implement public health policies and services, provide access to best possible medical care and treatment. Client services in regional offices in Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Plainfield and Trenton, as well as several statewide services from headquarters in New Brunswick.

New Jersey AIDS Partnership (Morristown)
Established by Community Foundation of NJ and Hyacinth AIDS Foundation as collaborative effort of private and corporate foundation leaders, public health officials, service providers, people living with HIV/AIDS and other community leaders to assess AIDS programs and solicit funding proposals. Seeks to leverage funds and resources in support of effective interventions.

New Jersey AIDS Services (Morristown)
Originally founded 1992 as
 AIDS Residence Coalition of Morris County. Opened 1994 Eric Johnson House in Morristown, now serves ten homeless individuals at a time for up to 24 months as they develop skills necessary to obtain and maintain permanent housing.   After discharge, subsequent aftercare program provides services to enhance independent, permanent housing and to link graduates to supportive and community resources, including medical, economic, nutritional, legal, employment, mental health, and substance abuse counseling offered both on and off-site.

South Jersey AIDS Alliance (Atlantic City)
Support services include hotline, medical referrals, testing, safe syringe supply, counseling. Sponsors annual fundraising walk. Client centers also in Cape May, Cumberland and Camden.

​Buddies of New Jersey (Hackensack)
​
Founded 1985, provides AIDS/HIV services in Bergen and Passaic counties. Operates Franklin A. Smith Resource Center, named after founder, provides information via professional services, accredited print publications, peer support and networking connections with health service and community organizations. Programs include counseling and treatment; free testing & counseling; case management; housing; peer support groups; transportation; and food bank.

- Hepatitis

Hepatitis C Association
 (Scotch Plains)

Hepatitis C an inflammation of the liver caused by viruses, alcohol, drugs and other toxins through contact with infected blood; contaminated IV needles; mother to newborn; and sexual contact. Educates public, patients and medical providers about virus and risk factors through educational programs and support materials. Promotes importance of organ donation to to public, offers support and help with access to patients living with disease, operates peer-operated toll-free support line.

- Lupus

Lupus Foundation of America-New Jersey Chapter (Springfield)
NJ chapter of national organization based in Washington, DC. Lupus an autoimmune disease that can damage any part of body (skin, joints, and/or organs). Results from failure of immune system to protect against viruses, bacteria, and germs, creating auto-antibodies that attack and destroy healthy tissues. May contribute to death from heart disease and kidney failure. Foundation  seeks to improve quality of life for affected by lupus through programs of research, education, support and advocacy.
