Senator since 2013, first African-American U.S. senator from New Jersey. Previously  38th mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013, also served on tMunicipal Council of Newark for the Central Ward from 1998 to 2002. Born in Washington, D.C.,, raised in Harrington Park. Stanford University BA in 1991 and master's degree a year later,  attended Queen's College, Oxford, on a Rhodes Scholarship before attending Yale Law School. First ran for mayor in 2002 but lost to incumbent Sharpe James, ran again in 2006 and defeated Deputy Mayor Ronald Rice. Elected to U.S. Senate in a 2013 special election and reelected in 2014 and in 2020. First senator to ever testify against another senator during attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions's 2017 confirmation hearing. Candidate for tDemocratic nomination in 2020  presidential election, suspending his campaign on January 13, 2020. Became NJ's senior senator when Bob Menendez resigned on August 20, 2024 while facing trial on corruption charges.

Appointed on December 18, 2024, to succeed George Helmy, who had been appointed by Governor Murphy to fill remaining term of Senator Robert Menendez upon resignation by Menendez effective August 20, 1974 following conviction on corruption charges on July 16, 2024. Kim elected to full Senate term in November 2024 election with 55% of the vote over Republican Curtis Bashaw. Served from 2019 to 2024 as the U.S. Representative from New Jersey's 3rd congressional district along southern and central New Jersey. Born in Boston and raised in Cherry Hill, studied political science at the University of Chicago before attending Magdalen College, Oxford. Shortly afterward, worked as a civilian advisor at the Department of State, serving in Afghanistan under the Obama administration. Inspired to run against Representative Tom MacArthur due to MacArthur's efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Kim defeated him in a close election in 2018. The first Democratic Congressman of Korean descent, served three terms in the House before appointment to Senate seat.

Former Democrat while serving in NJ Senate and Assembly and when first elected to House after opposing Trump impeachment  swtiched parties December 2019 to become Republican and became leading supporter of Donald Trump. Before getting elected to Congress, previously served three terms in Assembly and four terms in NJ State Senate. Before being elected to Congress IN 2018,  held several public offices, including fire commissioner, town committee member, Mayor of Dennis Township, and Cape May County Freeholder.  Represented New Jersey's 1st legislative district in Assembly from 2002 to 2008, and represented  same district in state Senate from 2008 to 2018.  Democratic nominee in 2nd congressional district in t 2018 election, won with 52.9% of the vote. After opposing first impeachment of Donald Trump, joined Republican Party shortly afterward, reelected in 2020, defeating Democratic challenger Amy Kennedy. Van Drew later supported the unsuccessful attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election. B.S. degree from Rutgers University and dentistry degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, retired  from dentistry practice after 30 years in South Jersey, resides in Dennis Township.

District in northernmost part of state, tretches from  George Washington Bridge in east to Pennsylvania border in west, with NY border to north. Candidate in June 2025 gubrnatorial primary. District heavily Latino and Hispanic, making up more than 40% of population. Represented by Democrat Bill Pascrell from 1996 until his death at age 87 in August 2024, Traditionally strong Democratic district,  but shifted to right in 2024 election, narrowly voting for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump after having previously voted for Democrat Joe Biden over Trump by 19 points in 2020. Democratic congressional candidate, Nellie Pou, won by 5 points over  Republican Billy Prempeh, much narrower margin than previous congressional races. Pou first Latina to represent NJ in Congress, Pou  served in state Legislature since 1997 where  she also succeeded Pascrell after he left Assembly to serve in Congress. Pou elected to state Senate in 2012, where she served as majority caucus chair, chaired commerce committee and as vice-chair of the judiciary committee. Born and raised in Paterson to parents who moved from Puerto Rico in 1953, attended Paterson Public Schools and, until recently, worked several different public jobs in Paterson.

Elected to first term November 2024, succeeded Donald Payne Jr., who died in office in April 2024. First Black woman to represent District, and youngest ever to be elected to House of Representatives from NJ, sworn into Congress on September 23, 2024. In 2018,elected as  youngest woman ever to Newark City Council where she served for six years, three as council president. Born and raised in Newark’s Central Ward, where she still resides with husband and daughter. Received degree in English Literature from Bloomfield College and master’s degree in educational leadership and policy from Seton Hall University, later personnel director for Montclair Public Schools, and human resources positions at Newark Public Schools, also served as public affairs manager for PSE&G utility. In 2012, founded Newark G.A.L.S., Inc., a nonprofit devoted to nurturing future female leaders.

Serving as representative for 11th congressional district since 2019, candidate for governor in June 2025 Democratic primary election..Fformer U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, attorney, and former federal prosecutor  Born in Alexandria, Virginia, grew up in various locations along East Coast due to her father's job,  graduate of South Lakes High School in Reston, Virginia In 1994, B.S. degree from US Naval Academy in Annapolis, also l received MSc in international and world history from London School of Economics, in 2004, received certificate in Arabic language from American University in Cairo, in 2007 earned  Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
As Navy helicopter pilot for nine years, flew missions throughout Europe and in Middle East, left Navy in 2003. After graduation from Georgetown University Law Center,attorney at  Kirkland & Ellis' law firm's New York City office, where she worked in  litigation department from 2008 to 2011. After leaving Kirkland & Ellis, joined US Attorneys' Office as outreach and reentry coordinator, 2015 became assistant US Attorney for District of NJ, left that office in 2016. 
 2017 launched campaign for 11th district House seat which had been held by 12-term Republican incumbent Rodney Frelinghuysen, who in January 2018 announced he would not seek reelection. District  long considered safely Republican but redistricting strengthened Democratic votes by extending it further into Essex County, including section of Montclair around Sherrill's home. In June 2018, won Democratic primary with 77% of the vote, in November defeated Republican Jay Webber with 56.8% of the vote. First Democrat to win this seat since 16-term incumbent Joseph Minish was defeated in 1984 after  district had been redrawn to be more Republican. Married to Jason Hedberg, fellow classmate and graduate of US Naval Academy who served as a Navy intelligence officer. Couple has lived in Montclair with their four children since 2010.

​Representative for 12th congressional district since 2015, first African-American woman to represent NJ in House of Representatives. . Previously served in NJ General Assembly from 1998 to 2015  Born in Camden, attended Rutgers University before receiving B.A. from Thomas Edison State College in 1985. Began career in NJ state government, working for Division on Civil Rights and later serving as director of Office of Civil Rights, Contract Compliance and Affirmative Action in the Department of Transportation. In General Assembly, she served as Majority Leader from 2006 to 2010.In 2014,  ran for House seat previously held by retiring Representative Rush Holt.  Mmember of Congressional Progressive Caucus and  Congressional Black Caucus, among others, co-founded Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls in 2016, as well as the America 250 Caucus to help plan activities for America's semiquincentennial commemoration in 2026.
