NJ chapter of national organization based in Brooklyn with nine state and metro chapters. NJ state director Analilia Mejia resigned February 2019 to become political director of Bernie Sanders presidential campaign. Based in Brooklyn, advocates for economic and social justice programs aiding working families. Supports state and local candidates for office, organizes grass-roots campaigns to advance progressive policies. Issues include paid family and sick leave, minimum wage, healthcare access and costs, affordable housing availability and financing.

Works through litigation and advocacy on behalf of individuals on issues of civil rights, free speech, privacy, also lobbies on bills in state legislature and ordinances of local municipalities, sponsors many public education and community organizing projects. ACLU-NJ Foundation funds litigation, educational programs. Recent cases, issues include immigration detention matters; bail reform; student free speech rights; civil asset forfeiture; restrictions on employer criminal record searches and inquiries.

Children's Home Society of New Jersey

Founded 1894, works to support child welfare, health and education. Programs include behavioral health/mental health, permanency planning, community/neighborhood based services, school-based services, and early childhood and parent education. Provides services for children from pre-natal to adult and parents at risk, including prevention, support, childcare, referral, and treatment. In conjunction with federal Adoption and Safe Families Act, contracts serve many children in NJ foster care and adoption system, providing range of services before adoption, during state placement process, and after adoption.

Fair Share Housing Center

Founded 1975, public interest organization formed to defend housing rights of New Jersey’s poor through enforcement of Mount Laurel doctrine. Works for legislation and judicial enforcement of elimination of  exclusionary zoning and requiring all towns to provide their “fair share” of their region’s need for affordable housing.

Service Employees International Union-
​New Jersey State Council 

One of most active labor unions on progressive public policy issues such as paid family leave, minimum wage increases, also endorses federal, state election candidates. Executive Director Lizette Delgado-Polanco resigned 2018 to accept position in Murphy Administration as executive director of NJ School Development Authority, provoked controversy over hiring some 30 members of family, labor operatives, political insiders. State Council coordinates legislative and political agenda for seven SEIU locals representing some 40,000 NJ members in four major industries, including health and long-term care, property services, municipal workers and resident physicians.
