One of 24 Franciscan universities in US and only one in NJ. Founded as Immaculate Conception Normal School in 1923 by Felician Sisters of Lodi to train teachers; incorporated as Immaculate Conception Junior College in 1942; accepted first lay students in 1965; first class of nursing students admitted in 1965; offered four-year degrees in elementary education as Felician College in 1967; changed name to Felician University with state approval in November 2015. Founded and sponsored by Felician Sisters to educate diverse students within framework of a liberal arts tradition. Now four-year liberal arts' Catholic college on two campuses: 27 acres in Lodi and 10 acres in Rutherford, site of athletic facilities, student union, classroom buildings. Rutherford campus also site of The Castle, originally built in 1869, restored and re-opened 2013 as student center and to house university’s chapel and administrative offices. Student body 70% female, 30% live on campus. Undergraduate programs in arts and sciences, business administration, computer science, teacher education, nursing. U.N. Fellowship Program provides student access to attend U.N. conferences and meet politicians, diplomats and ambassadors from around globe.Offers evening and weekend college, online courses, internships in firms, hospitals, laboratories. Most popular majors health professions and related programs and business/marketing. Special centers include Institute for Gerontology to address human, societal and health conditions of aging; Center for Excellence in Computer Science; Blessed Mary Angela Institute; Institute for Ethics and Public Affairs. Master of Science in Nursing degree program ranked as one of best online graduate nursing programs in nation by US News and World Report, ranked as #1 Safest College Campus in NJ in 2018 by niche.com
