Alcoholics Anonymous-New Jersey
Regional groups with information on local meetings include Central Jersey Intergroup (Bordentown); South Jersey Intergroup (Cherry Hill); Cape Atlantic Intergroup (Egg Harbor); Oficina Intergrupal Hispana New Jersey (Newark); Intergroup of Northern NJ (Union). International fellowship of those with drinking problems, holds regular support meetings at locations throughout world. Features 12-step program to admit addiction, commit to recovery. Origins traced to Oxford Group, religious movement popular in  US and Europe in early 20th century whose members practiced formula of self-improvement by performing self-inventory, admitting wrongs, making amends, using prayer and meditation, and carrying message to others.

Narcotics Anonymous-New Jersey (Perth Amboy)  
NJ affiliate of international, community-based association of recovering drug addicts with over 61,000 weekly meetings in over 131 countries worldwide. Statewide NJ services managed by staff at Grace Lutheran Church in Perth Amboy.

National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence-
​New Jersey
 
(Robbinsville)
NJ affiliate of National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, private nonprofit organization founded 1982 to advocate on behalf of those affected by drug and alcohol addiction and their families. NCADD-NJ has some 125 employees and total operating budget of $9.4 million, also manages more than $22 million in addiction treatment funding and operates Substance Abuse Initiative funded by NJ Division of Family Development providing addiction and mental health clinical assessments and care coordination services to welfare recipients.

Al-Anon and Alateen of New Jersey (Edison) 
NJ affiliates of national Al-Anon Family Groups based in VA. Sponsors meetings of those whose lives affected by someone else’s drinking, either currently or in past, as well as health care professionals who treat families of alcoholics. Follows 12-step program adapted from that of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Nar-Anon of New Jersey (Freehold)
NJ affiliate of international fellowship of those affected by addiction in someone else such as relative or friend.  Meetings held in NJ seven days a week with one person speaking at a time to share experience. Offers 12-step spiritual program.

Rescue Mission of Trenton (Trenton)
Origins in 1915 founding of The City Rescue Mission by Evangelical Christians seeking to minister to the spiritual needs of homeless, soon expanded to provide material needs for beds and meals, by 1918, place of refuge for over 100 people each per night. Programs developed over years into  comprehensive Work Therapy/Life Skills program, also provides substance use services including residential recovery program with counseling, as well as ambulatory services. Counselors and adult education program offers GED preparation, basic literacy tutoring, parenting classes, and computer/word processing skills. Thrift store and online purchases produce approximately 30% of operating budget each year through sales of clothing, restored and donated furniture, housewares. Awarded highest 4-star rating from CharityNavigator.org

City of Angels NJ (Hamilton)
Founded 2009 to guide people with addiction to treatment and support them in recovery, annually performs hundreds of interventions and referrals to treatment. Also conducts community outreach through schools and local events to educate public about addiction. No charge for services, including interventions, recovery support and other programs and activities.

COPE Center (Montclair)
Provides affordable behavioral healthcare services in Essex County, acronym stands for Counseling, Outreach, Prevention, and Education. Counselors work in areas of drug and alcohol abuse, family crises, problems in daily living, and AIDS. Founded by Junior League of Montclair and United Way of North Essex, incorporated in 1971.

Parent-to-Parent Coalition (Marlton)
Founded 1998 by four mothers, three of whom lost their sons to drug addiction. Coalition for parents and loved ones who are suffering effects of substance abuse. Provides information on available drug-treatment options including detox centers, treatment facilities and halfway houses. Advocates for expanded treatment, insurance coverage.
