Founded 1867 as Methodist seminary, maintains affiliation with United Methodist Church; Theological School grants degrees, including Doctor of Ministry, Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology.. In 1928, gift led to creation of College of Liberal Arts, which began as small college for men, became co-educational during 1940s and grew significantly in 1960s. Caspersen School of Graduate Studies opened 1955 devoted to advanced study in humanities including doctorate program, named after Caspersen family, headed by late Finn Caspersen, CEO of Beneficial Finance. Approximately 20% of students attend part-time, 80% of students live in college-owned, -operated or -affiliated housing and 20% live off campus; student body. 57% female. 186-acre campus. Theological and Caspersen schools offer MA and PhD degrees and the College confers BA and BS degrees in more than 30 disciplines. Initiated new undergraduate degree path, "Launch," which syncs career development with academics and community service in 2019. Charles A. Dana Research Institute for Scientists Emeriti, home of 2015 Nobel Prize Winner for Medicine and Drew Fellow William Campbell, also offers credit for New York City semesters focusing on Wall Street, United Nations, Contemporary Art, Theatre, Social Entrepreneurship and Communications and Media, along with international semester programs. Also hosts Center on Religion, Culture & Conflict, Center for Holocaust/Genocide Study and Shakespeare Theatre of NJ independent professional theater, as well as United Methodist Archives and History Center and collection archival materials on Willa Cather. Graduate degree programs in social sciences and humanities in addition to those at Theological School. Notable alumni include Soon-Yi Previn, wife of writer and director Woody Allen; former NJ Governor Thomas H. Kean Sr. served as president 1990-2005, during Drew tenure also served as co-chair of national commission to investigate 9/11 terrorism attacks. Fiske Guide to Colleges named Drew among top 10 private schools in US on annual “Best Buy” list; Washington Monthly ranked it among top 100 “Best Bang for the Buck” schools in country;
