New Jersey’s only fully-accredited evangelical four-year college. Founded 1908 to offer Christ-centered education by the Pillar of Fire International evangelical organization as an undergraduate level institution in Wesleyan-Arminian theological tradition derived from John Wesley (1703-1791), leader of Methodist movement and father of Methodist Church. Chartered 2001 as Somerset Christian College by NJ Commission on Higher Education to grant two-year Associate in Biblical Studies degree, in 2006 approved to offer four-year Bachelor of Arts degrees, changed name to Pillar in 2012. Courses include Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, Counseling, Elementary Education, Theology. Main campus in Newark, others in Paterson, Somerset ,Plainfield. Somerset, Jersey City. Now offers Master of Arts degrees, traditional four-year Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, in addition to two-year and non-traditional degrees and certificate options for adult learners..Special Spanish language and adult learning programs. Also offers Prior Learning Assessment Credits of up to 30 credits for prior life and learning experience. Open admission policy, students can attend with high school diploma or a certificate of attendance or General Educational Development certificate. Enrollment approximately 80% female, 20% male; 54% Hispanic/Latino, 30% African American, 7% Asian, 4% White. Average student age 32 years old.
