Here is a selection of attractions for kids that both locals and visitors enjoy. If you are about to move to New Jersey, organize the  process in a way that will be the least stressful for your kids. Talk to them, give them support, and show understanding for all the troubles, doubts, and difficulties they are going through. Finally, the attractions we have listed may be useful and practical when helping your child adapt to new surroundings..

  • Liberty Science Center (Jersey City)                           

Learning center located in Liberty State Park on Jersey City bank of the Hudson near the Statue of Liberty, with access to ferry service to Statue and Ellis Island immigration museum. Science Center houses 12 museum exhibition halls, a live animal collection with 110 species, giant aquariums, a 3D theater, live simulcast surgeries, hurricane- and tornado-force wind simulators, K-12 classrooms and labs, teacher-development programs, and Western Hemisphere's biggest planetarium—the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and LSC Giant Dome Theater.

  • Kidz Village (Jersey City, Woodbridge, Kenilworth)

Indoor play center organized in different creative theme rooms. Children aged ten and under can enjoy  variety of interactive, age-appropriate activities, including indoor jungle gym and rooms with pretend businesses where children can work and play together, to a spacious central area for parents who can watch their kids play.
 Central and Northern NJ locations.

  • ​Adventure Aquarium (Camden)

Ranked by USA Today among 10 best aquariums in North America. Tanks house 15,000 aquatic species, with
largest collection of sharks on East Coast, including only great hammerhead shark exhibit in US; only aquarium in world to exhibit hippos; one of only six facilities in US to have Little Blue penguins; smallest of penguin species, also features outdoor.Penguin Park with new soft play area and profiles of African penguins.

  • Diggerland USA (West Berlin)

Only construction theme park in US, with adults and kids (free admission for those under 36 inches tall, with some equipment restricted to those above that height) driving dump trucks, tractors, excavators, as well as zip lines and rope courses.Free admission to park for those under 36 inches in height to a number of attractions, including a Barrel Train. Adjacent waterpark opened 2020 operates seasonally.

  • ​Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks (Wildwood and North Wildwood)

One of New Jersey's largest amusement complexes, offers over 100 rides and attractions across three amusement piers and two beachfront waterparks located on The Wildwoods' boardwalk. Owned and operated by Morey family since 1969. Mariner's Landing located in Wildwood traditional amusement park highlighted by 156-foot tall Ferris wheel, along with classic amusement rides such as Super Scooters, Teacups, Musik Express, Ignis Fatuus, Sea Serpent. Adventure Pier includes Grand Prix Raceway and classic wooden coaster The Great White which starts by dropping into tunnel beneath boardwalk, then climbs 110-foot lift hill before dropping 100 feet, reaching speeds over 50 miles per hour. Other attractins include Skyscraper ride,  a maze, boat tag game and helicopter tours. 
  • ​Nickelodeon Universe (East Rutherford)

Largest indoor theme park in North America spanning 8.5 acres. Opened October 2020 within long-delayed American Dream retail entertainment mall. Features more than 35 rides, roller coasters and attractions. Nickelodeon costumed characters such as SpongeBob, Dora The Explorer and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles greet visitors. Five roller coasters include Shellraiser, featuring plunging 122-foot drop.Skyline Scream  world’s tallest indoor spinning drop tower thrill ride with views of Nickelodeon Universe and Manhattan cityscape. Family friendly rides include giant double-decker sippy cup all-ages merry-go-round; tots Ferris wheel.


  • ​Safari Off Road Adventure (Jackson)

Located within Great Adventure Amusement Park, admission included with general theme park admission and season passes. Houses 1,200 animals on 350 acres from six continents including elephants, rhinos, tigers, giraffes and lions..Previously conducted with visitors on small bus, in 2020, due to COVID-19 concerns, attraction returned to a drive-through experience for private vehicles, with tickets bought separately from main park. Camp Aventura midway through section contains much of Great Adventure's bird and reptile collection, while also offering guests  opportunity to feed giraffes and take zip-line over park.

  • ​Jenkinson’s Boardwalk and Jenkinson's Aquarium (Point Pleasant Beach)

​Mix of amusement rides, two roller coasters, fun house, bars, restaurants, miniature golf, arcades with skee-ball, pinball and other attractions.. Jenkinson’s Aquarium exhibits include Atlantic sharks, Pacific sharks, coral reefs, penguins, seals and 'Wally', two-toed sloth, with touch tank allowing visitors to touch live animals ranging from a sea star to a sting ray.

  • Northlandz ​(Flemington)

Largest model train exhibit in US, along with outdoor 1890s replica narrow gauge steam train with 20-minute ride. Doll Museum features over 200 dolls from around world, a 94-room dollhouse, 2,000 pipe theatre organ and art galleries with exhibits exhibits containing scenes such as Civil War battle display, world's only toothpick farm, a city, a miniature carnival and a plane crash site. Hosts community and theatre/musical groups throughout year. Completed renovation 2019 after change in ownership.

  • iPlay America (Freehold)

Indoor amusement park.with four acres of games, rides and attractions, including go-karts, laser battle arena, 4D theatre,  arcade with bowling, skee-ball, pinball. Topgolf Swing Suite features interactive computer video golf and other sports. Kite Flyer, Skyscraper, Reverse Time, and play 2-level laser tag  all indoors so weather is never an issue. Game Time Bar & Grill features multiple flat-screen TVs so your game is always on.Food includes Jersey Shore boardwalk-style hot dogs, cheesesteaks, funnel cakes, old-fashioned candy. Hosts birthday parties, special events and live music in event center

  • ​Monster Mini Golf (Fairfield, Eatontown, Edison, Paramus, Cherry Hill)

​30 locations in US and Canada. Indoor, climate-controlled 18-hole miniature golf course under luminescent glow of black lights, laser tag and maze, mini bowling, monster-themed décor featuring animated monsters, high-tech video game arcade and  prize center

  • ​​Mountain Creek Waterpark (Vernon)

Operates seasonally, located on grounds of  Mountain Creek ski resort. .Features Alpine Mountain Coaster, and zip-line. Colorado River white water raft ride.  interactive water play fort styled like an Adirondack fishing shanty.  water playground with slides, spray jets and two cool waterfalls; two-. G .Hightide Wavepool is one of the largest pools of its kind, sculpting over 450,000 gallons of water into a perfect set of waves. Canyon Cliff Jump lets water parkers leap off a ledge in front of dozens of spectators. more than 30 other activities from which you can choose.

  • Treescape Aerial Adventure Park (Vernon)

Operates seasonally, closed in winter months, a
djacent to  Great Gorge golf club. Platforms built high in trees connected by combinations of rope walks, obstacles, climbing elements, and zip lines all located in  forested setting. Visitors complete wide range of challenges for all age levels for individuals, families, small parties, or large groups.

  • Wild West City (Stanhope)

​Old West theme park based on Kansas City, Kansas, in 1880s with replica buildings, horses, stage coach, costumed characters such as Jesse James and his gang acting out robberies, resisting arrest, other portrayals of Western history including the Gold Rush. Main Street buildings with antiques include general store, bank, jail.

  • Turtle Back Zoo (West Orange)

Located in South Mountain Reservation, part of Essex County Park System, oldest in US. Big Cat Country area houses jaguars and cougars in 7,500-square-foot enclosure;  African Savanna includes lions and Masai giraffes; other species include penguins, sea turtles, wolves, bears, bobcats, snakes, alligators, owls. Miniature steam replica train ride takes visitors through South Mountain Reservation. Paddle boat launch and children's regatta playground available seasonally located on shore of Orange Reservoir. TreeTop Adventure Course world-class aerial obstacle course with separate courses for adults and children, along with zip line.  .
  • Amazing Escape Room (Freehold, Bloomfield, Princeton, Paramus, Green Brook,  Cherry Hill)

Features groups up to 10 people put in themed rooms such as jungle, assigned tasks to complete, clues to find, and puzzles to solve with goal of escaping in under 60 minutes. By observing participant actions via camera, a Game Master gives instructions to help them when they encounter problems.

  • Birding by Boat on the Osprey (Cape May)
Eco-tours of Cape May Harbor and Cape Island Creek Nature Preserve salt marsh with close views of local wildlife, including Osprey, migrating shorebirds, herons and egrets, nesting colonies of gulls and terns. Evening trips at sunset along with local heron rookery.
